For example, a 6oz glass of wine (about 170 grams) with ABV of 14% and 50 g/L of sugar has 166 calories from alcohol and 34 calories from carbs. For sweet wine, we also need to add the carbs' calories by multiplying the sugar level per volume, by the glass size and the calories per gram of sugar (4). To briefly calculate the calories in a glass of dry wine, multiply the alcohol by volume percent (ABV - found in the back label of a wine bottle) by the glass volume and then multiply it by the number of calories per gram (7).
